Member-only story
I used to struggle being productive. I felt overwhelmed and somewhat disorganized when it came to everyday tasks — be it professional or personal. In wished to get better, so I started making to-do lists.
At that time, it seemed as if everyone was using task tracking tools. It worked for them, but will those tools work for me? Each morning I wrote down a list of tasks to accomplish by end of the day.
Little did I know — that I was unconsciously setting my mind up for stress and failure.
I even sub-categorized my list: work, hobbies, family, friends. It was a perfect excel table, perfect schedule and perfect plan. In my first month of my new life-management I’ve done more than in the last three months — it felt awesome.
I felt — in control. Even thought not everything was ticket off, the majority was accomplished. Life was blissful.
But the moment I felt as if I had my life planned out — I started missing out on tasks and the list became longer while my patience shorter. Naturally I stopped checking my excel table and I went back into being unproductive.
