Picture someone with an inflated sense of self-importance, a relentless hunger for admiration, and a glaring lack of empathy. That’s the heart of NPD. This isn’t just about having a big ego or being a bit self-centered. According to the DSM-5, NPD involves a constellation of traits and behaviors that disrupt one’s ability to form genuine relationships and function effectively in society.

Individuals with NPD often fantasize about unlimited success, power, and ideal love. They believe they are superior, even without achievements, to back up these grandiose thoughts. They seek out high-status people, show arrogance, and expect constant praise. But beneath this façade of confidence lies a fragile self-esteem, heavily reliant on others’ validation.
